1st edition, scarce, though readily available in reprints of all kinds. 16mo, lavender cloth decorated and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, 74 pages. VERY GOOD: corners are gently bumped, rear board has light a small stain, spine head rubbed, spine tail has a 1/2 inch tear, endpapers slightly toned, a 4-line poem as been written on the front endpaper ["The rose is red / The water is blue / Sugar is sweet / And so are you - ] otherwise clean and tight throughout. The publisher's note: "'Posies' are the poetry of posy rings and kisses. They will be found to explain themselves. These couplets are just innocent pretty things to which we might well return. Their composition exercised the wit of many courtly rhymers of the Sixteenth, Seventeenth, and Eighteenth centuries. During many years I have searched for 'posies,' and these are the best which I have found." A.L.H. (Arthur L. Humphreys). Humphreys was a London publisher and the author of The Private Library, a book about book collecting. "By this Ring of Gold / Take Me To Have and Hold." - Rosemary Rose I Send to Thee / In Hope that Thou Wilt Marry Me"
